2023 Team Canada Application
The only way to represent Canada at the official FISO OCR World Championships in Belgium, September 14-17, 2023 is to be a member of Obstacle Sports Canada (OSC) in good standing and be selected through an application process.
To apply for Team Canada:
The application for Team Canada 2023 is for the 100, 3k, and 15k teams and will close at 11:59 pm on April 30, 2023. Athletes will be notified of selection by May 12, 2023.
Selection Criteria for Team Canada 2023 is based on your past race history dating back to January 1, 2019 and will be judged by volunteer board members of OSC.

What Events Can I Apply For?
100M – Sprint - The Sprint Course is 12 standardized obstacles evenly spaced along a 2-lane 100m linear (straight line) course. Watch this video to see a demonstration. Categories are for men and women in all age groups. Each country can nominate up to one athlete in Youth, Junior, Masters and Para and three athletes in Elite (for a total of 7 men and 7 women). Additional slots may be allocated subject to availability. Minimum age to compete is 10 years old on race day.
3K – Short Course - The Short Course is a 3 km (+/-) cross country style race with 20 obstacles. The race format and obstacles are similar to OCREC 2022 watch the video. Categories are for men and women in all age groups. Minimum age to compete is 10 years old on race day. Minimum age to compete is 10 years old on race day.
15K – Standard Course - The Standard Course is a 15 km (+/-) cross country style race with up to 50 obstacles. The race format and obstacles are similar to the short course at the OCREC 2022, watch the video. Categories are for men and women in Elite, Para, Junior, Senior, and Masters to the oldest competitor. Minimum age to compete is 16 (born in 2007).
What Categories are Available?
Youth: Athletes on a national team qualified by their national federation in the following age categories: 10/11, 12/13, 14/15
Junior: Athletes on a national team qualified by their national federation in the following age categories: 16/17, 18/19
Senior: Athletes on a national team qualified by their national federation in the following age groups: 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39
Masters: Athletes on a national team qualified by their national federation in the following age groups: 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, etc. to the oldest athlete.
Elite: Elite athletes on a national team qualified by their national federation. Elite athletes must be the minimum age allowed for each event, for example minimum Elite age for the 15K is 16 years old and minimum Elite age for the 100m is 10 years old.
Para: Para athletes may apply under one of the following categories: PO1, PO2-1, PO2-2, PO3, PO4 & PO5.
Do I have to be a member of Obstacle Sports Canada to participate?
Yes, you must be a member in good standing. If you've signed up for the race, but are not yet a member please do so today. Our annual membership for 2023 is $25.
What does the membership fee cover?
The membership fee goes towards the development of programs for athletes & coaches as well as promoting OCR in Canada. As a not for profit organization with a volunteer board, the fees are essential to running the organisation which allows us to bring accessible events like this one to you.
Will Obstacle Sports Canada fund qualifying athletes to attend the World OCR Championships in Belgium?
Though we one day hope to support athlete’s travel costs to Belgium, we are not in a financial position to do so.

Just like the Olympics and other international multi-sport Games, national teams are qualified through their national federation. The national federations - in this case Obstacle Sports Canada - are non-profit organisations run by and for their members, the athletes. Official teams are limited to 5 people per competitive race category. Additional athletes may run under their country flag in open categories.
